Doomfist’s return needed a musical story. This is a better, wiser and more bad-ass version of himself, regaining his aura and reminding everyone what makes him a force to be reckoned with.
The score had to express that progression. His power comes with greater confidence and control, calling for music that knows when to hold back and when to hit.
Through that transformation, his African roots needed to remain close. The challenge was to bring his history, renewed authority and contemporary attitude together in one distinctive sound.
We built the score around three elements: a contemporary hip-hop beat, a larger-than-life cinematic score, and African group vocals and percussion.
Each carries part of Doomfist’s story. Hip-hop gives his return swagger and self-assurance. The cinematic music follows the epic scale of his comeback. And finally the native group vocals, talking drums, djembes and dununs keep the music connected to his roots.
Together, they express a character who has evolved while retaining the identity that makes him unmistakable.
Give the beat the confidence of someone who knows his own power. Make the drop land with an instinctive stank-face reaction.
Shape the score around Doomfist regaining his aura, building from controlled tension towards a commanding musical presence.
Keep African vocals and percussion integral to the composition, carrying his heritage through every shift in scale and energy.
The score follows Doomfist’s comeback through changes in tension and scale. Restraint gives his presence room to grow, making the moments of release feel earned. The contemporary hip-hop beat anchors his confidence. The sounds carries weight and attitude, giving the impact of a character stepping back into his power.
Talking drums, djembes and dununs interact with the beat, bringing distinct rhythmic voices into the production. African group vocals add collective force, keeping his roots audible as the cinematic writing expands around them.
The three elements work together throughout the story. As Doomfist regains his aura, the music becomes more commanding: grounded in his identity, confident in his evolution and ready to hit hard.
